Mrs C’s Home Kitchen is a small catering business and bespoke cake maker. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products. Everything is homemade by us on the premises including jams made from our own homegrown produce. We are passionate about ingredients, we grow a lot of things ourselves and use local wherever possible.

Your Hosts

I grew up in Belfast before moving to London at the age of 18 and forging a successful career path which was far removed from food. Mrs C’s Home Kitchen remained a very distant dream.

Mr C grew up in London. Born to Irish immigrants he spent long summers in county Mayo bringing in the hay.

I have always had a passion for great produce. The more local the better. Growing up on an island, in the 70’s and 80’s we didn’t see the exotic food that was to later become an every day part of my life. Instead we relied on what grew locally. Buying meat, fish and vegetables in a supermarket was unheard of. Shopping local, supporting local suppliers, was a way of life. This instilled in me, a food ethic, which has remained with me always. The more I learned about food, the more my passion for it grew.

We moved to our gorgeous home in this amazing location, situated just outside the village of Dundrum to follow a dream. Surrounded by rolling fields of farmland, we awake each morning to stunning views of the Mourne Mountains.

I cannot imagine a place better suited to inspire foodies. Close proximity to the coast, surrounded by farmers, this is food producers heaven.

Mrs C’s Home Kitchen was born, initially to provide catering and make beautiful celebration cakes. It is now, expanding into baking experiences, that I finally get to realise those dreams. Combining my love of mentoring with the warmest hosting, sharing our home, whilst teaching people to bake traditional Irish staples/delicacies including bread and other treats.

Traditional baking at home with Mrs c.

Under Mrs C’s careful guidance, you will learn how to make traditional wheaten bread in our home kitchen, overlooking the stunning mourne mountains. Wheaten bread, which is also referred to as brown soda bread in parts of the country, is a traditional staple in our diet here. It is believed to have originated in 1840, when bicarbonate of soda/baking soda was first introduced to the country. There are basic principles, but recipes can vary. You will learn using Mrs C’s very own recipe.
With your loaf safely in the oven you will tuck into the most delicious homemade treats. These will showcase seasonality, our homegrown produce and the best of local ingredients.
When eventually you are able to drag yourself away from our very welcoming kitchen, you will take home not only your memories and a newfound skill, but your loaf of freshly baked wheaten bread to enjoy later.

Are you looking for a fun, adventurous foodie experience? Speak to us about tailoring your experience to suit your group.

Option ranges might include 

  • ⁠  ⁠S’more making. Perfectly toast delicious pillowy homemade marshmallows before sandwiching between 2 of our homemade biscuits smothered in chocolate.
  • ⁠  ⁠Learn how to make the perfect Irish coffee .
  • ⁠  ⁠Lunch al fresco (weather permitting) or in our home kitchen. Our large patio is right outside the kitchen door. It enjoys stunning views overlooking the majestic Mourne Mountains. Join us for some traditional Irish food with twists. 
  • ⁠  ⁠Dinner al fresco (weather permitting). You’ve finished your traditional bread making and you don’t want to leave. Step outside the kitchen, onto our lovely large patio. Join us for dinner (Pre booking essential).
